Message from the Chairman of the
XVI European Meeting on Hypertension

Dear Friends,

we are delighted to extend you a cordial invitation to the 16th Scientific Meeting of the European Society of Hypertension (ESH) which will be held in Madrid at the IFEMA - FERIA DE MADRID - Centro de Convenciones Norte & Hall 10 - from June 12 to 15, 2006.

ESH 2006 should be a fruitful source of scientific exchanges and discussion between specialists and primary care doctors from Europe and abroad. A large portion of the programme will be devoted to oral and poster presentations which will be selected from the abstracts submitted by the participants, based on the assessment of four expert Reviewers per abstract.

The programme will include the usual State-of-the-Art Lectures, Breakfast Workshops, Debates and Round Tables to complement presentations of original research with views on topics of basic and clinical interest from wordlwide authorities in hypertension.
There will also be several Satellite Symposia organised by Pharmaceutical Industries which will be held in the days before, and during (evenings) the Main Meeting to allow more specific information on new treatments of hypertension and related cardiovascular diseases to be presented and discussed.

As a novelty the sessions organised by the different Working Groups as well as the ones devoted to Young Investigators will be incorporated to the main programme in an attempt of extending the possibility of knowing the work of these groups by all the attendees interested.
The programme will be under the responsibility of the Scientific Council of ESH and of the Local Organizing Committee.
It will include, beside blood pressure, all the different cardiovascular risk factors that interact with arterial hypertension in the development and consequences of cardiovascular and renal disease.

Our aim will be to update the integrated management of global cardiovascular risk in patients who present abnormally elevated blood pressure levels.

The European Society of Hypertension will also provide travel and accommodation grants to help participation of young investigators who may find difficult covering expenses for attending the Meeting. Lower registration fees have also been planned for the members of the European Society of Hypertension.

The 2006 ESH meeting will receive official credits from UEMS (European Union of Medical Specialists) to which ESH belongs and from ESH itself with regard to European Specialist qualification.

The Opening Ceremony of the Meeting will be held on Monday, June 12th, at 17.30hrs in the Auditorium of the Congress venue. At the end of the Opening Ceremony, a Welcome Reception will be offered.
These events will take place on a single area over the time of the Congress.

June is one of the most beautiful months in Madrid.
We wish to achieve a perfect mix of art and science, research and culture.
We sincerely hope you will be part of the challenge.
We look forward to seeing you in Madrid in 2006 for what we expect to be a stimulating and exciting Meeting.

Yours sincerely,

Luis M. Ruilope
Chairman of the Organizing Committee
